The HyFlex Academy is a alternative educational provision for young people aged 11- 16 with Special Educational Needs, behavioural challenges, and Children Looked After (CLA). Position Overview
Title: Assistant Head of Education
Start date: September 2025
Salary: £50,000 + Bonus
Location: Chester/Hybrid with flexible Monday and Friday working hours
The Assistant Head of Education role has been created to help in the expansion of The Greenhouse HyFlex Academy and ensure we build an effective and enthusiastic team. They will report directly to the Head of Education and be vital as we expand and will be for someone who wants to be part of an expanding school that offers great development and career pathways.
This senior role is responsible for ensuring excellence in educational delivery, safeguarding student welfare, and maintaining effective communication with all local authorities and stakeholders. The position requires experience in alternative provisions, special educational needs and/or a proven track record in educational leadership and to provide strategic leadership and management for the HyFlex Academy.
As a growing company this will be a hybrid role for which the applicant will need to manage and build the teaching staff and may be required to demonstrate their teaching ability from time to time. They will provide organisational and strategic guidance, whilst working with the Senior Leadership Team to grow the provisions. The role will be based at a set premises but there are opportunities to work from home throughout the week.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Staff Management
- Help recruit, manage, and develop education staff to deliver exceptional learning experiences
- Provide instructional leadership and pedagogical guidance to teaching staff
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment
- Lead regular staff development activities and performance evaluations
Student Outcomes and Welfare
- Hold accountability for all students’ health, safety, and educational progression
- Lead the development and implementation of individual education plans for students
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, implementing interventions when necessary
- Ensure all safeguarding requirements are met and exceeded and the physical centres are ran correctly abiding to all quality and compliance regulations
Special Educational Needs Expertise
- Implement tailored approaches for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Development Plans (IDPs) using our hybrid and flexible approach to learning
- Ensure compliance with all relevant SEN regulations and guidelines
Stakeholder Communication
- Write and deliver regular comprehensive reports to all stakeholders and hold mandatory review meetings collate data and feedback.
- Maintain excellent communication with guardians, local authorities and care providers
- Build and nurture relationships with external educational bodies and community partners
- Represent The Greenhouse at relevant educational forums and meetings
Strategic Development
- Develop, implement and evaluate the educational vision and strategy for The Greenhouse, with innovative and forward thinking approaches with the children and young people at the heart of all decisions.
- Contribute to the overall strategic direction of The Greenhouse and building the curriculum.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent educational qualification
- Proven experience in a senior leadership position within a school setting
- Demonstrated experience working with children and young people with SEN, EHCPs, and IDPs
- Track record of developing successful education plans and producing comprehensive reports
- Experience in designing responsive curricula that meet individual student needs while complying with national standards
- A proven history of implementing educational innovations that enhance outcomes for diverse learners
Skills and Competencies
- Outstanding communication and organisational skills
- Strong leadership abilities with experience managing educational teams
- Nice to have understanding of SEN frameworks and support strategies
- Ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills for educational assessment and reporting
