Salary: £32,500 – £42,000 pro rata (Based on level of experience)

The Greenhouse HyFlex Academy have adopted a new and innovative approach to learning to those individuals with complex needs, including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and that are looked after. We create a hybrid, flexible, nurturing and therapeutic environment where students can achieve their academic potential while developing the emotional resilience and life skills they need to succeed. Our approach combines high-quality teaching, person centred education plans with trauma-informed practice to support our most vulnerable young people. We have had brilliant success in engaging and progressing students, we are not expanding our team to reach even more students that need our special provision and work with our enthusiastic, creative and forward thinking team.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated KS3 & KS4 Teacher with expertise in Maths and English to join our supportive team. This part-time role involves working with students who have SEMH and complex needs, preparing them for key qualifications while helping them overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will be passionate about making a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable students and have the skills to adapt their teaching to meet diverse and challenging needs.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in Maths and English for KS3 and KS4 students
- Prepare students for GCSE examinations and alternative qualifications as appropriate
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH and complex needs
- Create a calm, structured learning environment that promotes engagement and reduces anxiety
- Use assessment data to track progress and inform future planning
- Provide targeted intervention and support for students working below expected levels
Student Support and Behaviour Management
- Implement positive behaviour management strategies appropriate for students with SEMH needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with the senior leadership team, therapeutic and support staff to implement behaviour support plans
- Recognise and respond appropriately to signs of distress or escalating behaviour
- Support students in developing self-regulation strategies and coping mechanisms
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with other teachers, support staff, and external professionals
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings and reviews
- Maintain regular communication with parents/carers about student progress
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development activities
- Share expertise and good practice with colleagues
Assessment and Recording
- Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and attainment
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement and behavior
- Prepare detailed reports for parents, external agencies, and transition planning
- Contribute to Annual Reviews and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes
Essential Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Proven experience teaching Maths and English at KS3 and KS4 level
- Significant experience working with children and young people with SEMH difficulties
- Experience supporting students with complex needs in an educational setting
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and its application in education
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent subject knowledge in both Maths and English
- Strong understanding of GCSE curriculum and assessment requirements
- Knowledge of alternative qualifications suitable for students with complex needs
- Ability to differentiate effectively for a wide range of abilities and needs
- Excellent behaviour management skills appropriate for SEMH students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Additional qualifications in SEN, SEMH, or mental health support
- Experience with therapeutic approaches such as attachment-aware practice
- Knowledge of Functional Skills qualifications
