Salary: £32,000 – £42,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications) + TLR pay
Hours: Full-time 50:50 Teaching & Leadership
Location: The Greenhouse HyFlex Academy (Chester)

The Greenhouse HyFlex Academy have adopted a new and innovative approach to learning to those individuals with complex needs, including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, special educational needs (SEN) and that are looked after. We create a hybrid, flexible, nurturing and therapeutic environment where students can achieve their academic potential while developing the emotional resilience and life skills they need to succeed. Our approach combines high-quality teaching, person centred education plans with trauma-informed practice to support our most vulnerable young people. We have had brilliant success in engaging and progressing students, we are not expanding our team to reach even more students that need our special provision and work with our enthusiastic, creative and forward thinking team.
Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed professional to join our team as a Lead Teacher (SEN) working closely with our Head of Education. This role involves teaching core curriculum subjects (English, Maths, Science) to small groups and individual students.
Managing SEN paperwork, coordinating timetables, and supporting workshops and activities. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting our students’ educational journey while helping to develop their confidence and independence.
The Lead (SEN) Teacher will have a timetabled teaching commitment of 50%
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in core curriculum subjects (English, Maths,
- Science) to small groups and individual students
- Provide one-to-one teaching support for students with varying learning needs
- Prepare teaching materials tailored to individual student needs and learning styles
- Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and adapt teaching approaches accordingly
- Support students in developing confidence, independence, and a positive attitude toward learning
- SEN Coordination
- Manage SEN paperwork and attend relevant meetings (up to 1 day per week)
- Monitor and maintain ASDAN files, particularly focusing on employability skills
- Collaborate with the wider team to ensure appropriate support for all students
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) / PEPs.
Administration and Planning
- Coordinate timetables
- Track and manage student attendance
- Prepare and write detailed reports on student progress
- Communicate regularly with parents/carers about their young person’s progress
- Contribute to weekly education reports
Workshop and Activity Support
- Support workshop sessions on Thursdays with our Wellbeing Lead
- Attend and support external activities and trips, monitoring student engagement and attendance
- Develop relationships with new students and support their integration into The Greenhouse
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- At least two years’ experience working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision
- Strong understanding of SEN teaching approaches and behavior management strategies
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with young people
- Adaptable and flexible teaching approach
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Passionate commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with SEND
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- SEN qualification (highly desirable)
- Experience teaching core curriculum subjects (English, Maths, Science)
- Experience with ASDAN qualifications
- Experience coordinating timetables in an educational setting
- Knowledge of current SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
