About Us

The HyFlex Academy is a specialised educational provision for young people aged 11-19 with Special Educational Needs, behavioural challenges, and Children Looked After (CLA). The HyFlex Academy, part of The Greenhouse Learning and Development Ltd, creates sustainable educational pathways through our adaptable curriculum and flexible learning approach.

We collaborate closely with Local Authorities to support students who cannot attend mainstream education or have experienced educational gaps. Our unique learning environment provides both mandatory subjects and engaging alternatives designed to reconnect students with learning.

What sets us apart is our commitment to consistency. Students can continue their journey in our Specialist Post 16 Institution beyond age 16, providing a seamless transition that has proven successful for our learners.

As we expand to help provide outcome focused education to those who need it most, we are looking for an SEN/SEMH Teacher to join our growing team and help build this exciting new provision.

Role Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed professional to join our team as a Teacher (SEN & SEMH) working closely with our Head of Education. This role involves teaching core curriculum subjects (English, Maths, PHSE) to small groups and individual students. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting our students’ educational journey while helping to develop their confidence and independence.

This role is for an individual who is committed and passionate to learning and teaching and positive outcomes for young people, along with being part of a growing team that that support and develops strong career pathways for their employees.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in core curriculum subjects to small groups and individual students
  • Provide one-to-one teaching support for students with varying learning and complex needs
  • Prepare teaching materials tailored to individual student needs and learning styles
  • Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and adapt teaching approaches accordingly
  • Support students in developing confidence, independence, and a positive attitude toward learning

Administration and Planning

  • Coordinate timetables
  • Track and manage student attendance
  • Prepare and write detailed reports on student progress
  • Communicate regularly with parents/carers about their young person’s progress
  • Contribute to weekly education reports

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • At least two years’ experience working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision
  • Strong understanding of SEN teaching approaches and behavior management strategies
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with young people
  • Adaptable and flexible teaching approach
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Passionate commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with SEND

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • SEN qualification (highly desirable)
  • Experience with children and young people with behavioural and complex needs
  • Experience with children and young people in looked after settings
  • Experience with ASDAN qualifications
  • Experience coordinating timetables in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of current SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
